So my TBR is starting to make me a little uneasy. I am not sure if it is because it is half way though the year or I just feel like I need to cut it down a bit. Either way I decided to do “Try a Chapter” to see if some of the books on my TBR are actually something I would enjoy or the description tricked me into thinking it would be something great to read.
A Little Life
When four classmates from a small Massachusetts college move to New York to make their way, they’re broke, adrift, and buoyed only by their friendship and ambition.

Conclusion: Keep
Already a chapter in and I want to know what is going to happen to the character. Even though this book is longer I feel like it is going to go fairly quickly because it is so character driven, or at least seems that way at this point.
Annihilation
Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; all the members of the second expedition committed suicide; the third expedition died in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another; the members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within months of their return, all had died of aggressive cancer.

This book/series sounded so good. There was a mystery, science and exploration. Sadly, the writing was annoying. For me it took to long to get to the point. Even though I only read the first chapter I already started skimming, which is not a good sign. I do not mind slower books if they actually build up to something now and again, but this did not do it for me at all.
The Circle
When Mae Holland is hired to work for the Circle, the world’s most powerful internet company, she feels she’s been given the opportunity of a lifetime. The Circle, run out of a sprawling California campus, links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency.

Conclusion: Unhauled
Sadly, this was not for me. I really, really wanted to read this then watch the movie. It seems that this book is not for me, I think I will rent the movie so I can see what everyone is talking about. I can’t quite put my finger on the reason I do not want to read it, but I know I do not.
