DIY Adventure | Plant Stand

Hello and welcome to me sharing a recent DIY I made! I am by no means a professional builder nor is this post a tutorial or building instructions. This is just for entertainment and to share what I made. I recently realized I needed more room for my plants by my window sill. My current method was using my TBR cart. Well, with 10 plants, it isn’t really doable anymore. I searched for months and I could not find a stand or bench that fit my needs so I then searched for a DIY and I came across Shabby Grace Blog’s $10 DIY Plant Stand and it was just what I was looking for. The size I would be able to adjust and the paint pallet as well.

So, I will say I came across a few issues with this DIY, the main issue being the size of the screws. I needed a max of 2 1/2 inches, for some reason this DIY called for 4. inches. If I did that with 2×4 like she used I would have gone right through the top. I also did not have a table saw so cutting a 2×4 along the length was not possible so it stayed the same width. But, I think it was a great guide and jumping point for me.

Here is a picture where I already started attaching the legs to the top of the table. I have to say that this design I found to be really stable. It has the three 2×4 screwed together by the base holding the legs on. Then the legs are supported by another piece of wood, which you will see in the next picture.

In this picture you can see I stained the top a dark gray color, you can also see the support against the back collecting the two legs as well. As I said, this is a pretty stable table, I think it will be more than perfect for my plants. Following the stain I sealed it and the next step was to paint the legs white for a it of a contrast. I will admit I am not the best when it comes to being neat and painting or staining so I had a bit of a clean up to do before painting the legs.

Lastly, here is a picture of the finished product! The legs are a very bright white and the top is just dark enough of a gray stain to be a contrast, but not too dark for this room. I decided to place my giant green jug underneath to add a bit of a decoration, at least for the time being. On top you can see my pilea plant, my ZZ plant I just propagated, that was an experience! Next to that is my snake plant and my mother ZZ plant.

I am really in love with how this came out and to believe I made it with my own two hands! It is empowering to be able to make something like this for yourself. Especially when you have been looking for month and months and nothing you found in the store was quite right. Well, thank-you for reading about my adventure.

Garden Adventure | New Plant and Repotting

Garden Adventure

Hello and welcome to a bit of a different type of post. Spring is the time of year where my plants need the most care between increase in watering, fertilizing, and repotting. I wanted to take this time and share some of my newest plants and share some of the things I have been doing to care for them. I also recently built a plant stand which I will be sharing in a different post.

Updated Plant List

Since I now have about 10 plants, I didn’t realize this, I needed something to help guide my care of them. I ended up coming across an app called Vera. You can set reminders for each individual plant when to water or check plant to water as well as fertilize. It has been a huge help in keeping track of everything since the care is quite different for all of these beautiful plants.

Todays Project

Today my main goal is to pot repot my snake plant and my new pilea.  As picturers you can see I am using cactus potting soil and river rocks for my snake plant since this pot does not have drainage, I have no idea why they make pots without drainage. For my pilea I planned on mixing general potting soil and perlite. Well I opened the potting soil and there were a ton of tiny bugs flying out so I ended up keeping the soil it was in and mixing it with a bit of cactus soil. I will see how the plant does and it I need to repot I will.

Here is a little close up of my new plant baby! This has been one of my top wish list plants for some time and I was so please to have come across it by chance while picking up supplies for my plant stand I built. I just love the look of the round leaves.

Lastly, here are my repotted plants in their new homes. I really love the texture of these pots, one looks almost like a hive of some sort and the other is a cross hatch pattern. I feel like it gives them a lot of character without using bright colors. I have found I do not really enjoy bright pots because I feel like it distracts the eye from the beautiful green color of the leaves.

Hauls & Unboxings

Hello and welcome to my birthday haul! This past week was my birthday, which was so weird since. could not do what. normally do. But, wow my friends came through with birthday messages, videos, and zoom chats. Once of my friends even was sweet enough to drop me off some delicious food! I am truly lucky when it comes to friends. I just wanted to take the time to share the books and such I got this year for my birthday.

So, if you follow me on twitter you know. I have a switch lite and play some animal crossing. But, what you might not know is I love classic Nintendo games. I have always had a Nintendo gaming system since I was younger. So, my family chipped in together to get my a carrying case for my switch lite, a set of joycons, and Super Mario Party. I am so thankful, it is comforting to go back and play an updated version of an old favorite!

Next up is the books! I will be honest,  I bought The Glass Hotel as a birthday present to myself since it was signed and I really wanted to support my local indie bookstore. Next is Mooncakes, which was gifted by Jenna and Celtic Mythology, which was gifted by  Ariel. Both are such sweet people! I also found out I have a delivery waiting for me from Reg, who is also amazing! The last two books were bought by my parents, Color Therapy and Korean Cooking Favorites. I am so excited to get into that cook book!

My grandmother was also very kind in gifting me a 3 month subscription to The Sill, so I will be getting 3 deliveries over the next three months of beautiful plants. A gift that keeps on giving!

Last, but not least is a new Kitchen Aid hand mixer from my boyfriend. He knows how much I enjoy to cook and such and wanted to get me a good one. I used it for the first time last night to make bread, IT CAME WITH BREAD HOOKS! It worked so wonderfully. I did not take a picture of it because I was way too excited to use it.

I know I am so fortunate to have received these things from such wonderful people.

Hello and welcome to my May bullet journal post! This is an exciting one, I started a brand new notebook this month so I have more to share than just my monthly spreads. This is going to bit of a long one, so I am going to just get into it!

So, here is my new bullet journal. This time around I went for basic black and this one has a snake on the cover. One thing I love about these notebooks is the fact they have simple decoration on the cover. To me it gives off a classic and elegant vibe.

The first page of my notebook s always a general dot grid spread. I have used this n my last three bullet journals, it is really helpful when setting up new and old spreads. I always forget how many spaces go across my page and the halfway mark so this is very helpful.

This time around I decided to add a movie tracker. This spread is inspired by cyrus.serendipity14. All I need to do now is to add all the movies I need to watch. On the second page I added a TV tracker.  This tracker is inspired by @birdybujo on Instagram. I like how simple it is, at this point Outlander is the only show added. Also, you will notice I doodled herbs and plants on each page, this will continue throughout. I thought it would be a good way to tie everything together. On these pages I have rosemary and basil.

This time around I am trying to be more away of my spending and ordering online. I have a few goals this year for myself so I want to get everything in order. This wishlist and waiting on is inspired by  bulletjournal.com. Just like the previous pages, I really want to keep everything simple with these spreads because a lot will be added later on. On these pages I added lavender and sage.

Now these two spreads are a little more involved. On the left I am adding a health centered spread to track measurements and weight. This is inspired by @bulletjournalnoob. I need to still add some gray to differentiate the lines, but I am still searching for my gray highlighter. On the right I decided I am going to draw a book for all the books on my owned tbr shelf, this is inspired by @bujoandbee. I added a few plants that are a zz plant, monstera, and thyme.

On the lefthand side I wanted a way to keep track of all of my crochet projects. I decided to make a tag for each one. On each will be the start and end date, pattern, who it is for, and yarn used. On the right I put a monthly spread layout  from emerald lotus divination. I am planning on doing this spread every month so I wanted to keep it on hand to make things a bit easier. On these pages I doodled a string of pearls and oregano. 

This is a bill tracker I used in my previous bullet journal. It is really helpful when you pay your bills you can just mark it and you don’t need to worry if you forgot. I also add what date it is due and what I pay it with. On this page I attempted to draw mint, not sure how I feel about it, but I am still glad I tried.

I have had a tracker for my followers for this blog and my twitter for the past two bullet journals, but I changed the layout this time around, I was inspired by @penspapersplanner. I just do it for every five new followers, nothing fancy. I am not much of a numbers person, but I like marking it. On these spreads I drew chives.

I will be completely honest, I took the easy way out on this spread. I just photo copied  from previous bujo because I loved how well it came out the first time I didn’t want to mess it up.

On the left I migrated by temperature blanket tracker, I have very much behind and I really need to get back to it. Maybe you will see it in my next crochet update, my latest update you can find here: Crochet Talk | April 2020. On the right I photocopied a moon doodle from the book Muse with the Moon by Jo Cauldrick. It is the perfect reference I needed to keep track of the moon and the phases in order. On this page I doodled cilantro.

I love buddy reads and I love keeping track of them. I decided to continue with a buddy reads tracker and I also just migrated my top reads of 2020 spread. I left it blank when I took this picture so you all can be surprised at the end of the year. On this page I added basil.

Now onto the monthly spreads. This spread was taken by @littleolivebujo. I really loved how simple and organized this monthly introduction was. I loved the idea of monthly goals and a place for bigger events and the such. On this page I doodled some thyme.

Now, you mostly likely know I am studying Korean if you have been reading my blog regularly. I ended up taking this study spread from @jeannestudies. On the right I am keeping track to random expenses that come up. I kept these simple because they are going to be very full of information soon enough. I added rosemary and chamomile to these spreads.

My TBR and pages read spread is the one I used last month, just migrated over. I figure if it works, why change it up? On the right is where I am going to take notes and record my monthly spread that I noted earlier. I left a lot of open room so I have a lot of room to reflect and revisit as the month goes on.

This month my weekly spreads are a bit different. I added a few trackers on the sides that include habit, weekly, hours sleep and weather. Unfortunately I pinned this a while ago on Pinterest, but the link is now broken. I don’t remember where it came from so if you know who did this please let me know! I want to give them credit. On this spread I added thyme and dill.

Bullet JournalHello and welcome to another Bujo setup post! I am very excited to show you this months spreads for two reasons. I have cut a lot of the spreads I normally had and I added a few for the new year. Some of the cuts include my blog planning. I totally removed those pages and I now use a different planner/travelers notebook. As for the other spreads, expect to see a little consolidation and a few new layouts to mark the new year! On to a look into my bullet journal!

Since I am using the same notebook as I transition into the new year I decided to add this artwork from Shayda Campbell. I feel like this really separates and marks the new year and I thought it was important to celebrate it.

This year I wanted to add a little layout that would highlight my favorite book of the month. I thought it would be helpful and fun to reflect upon it at the end of the year. On the other page I have a Read 5, Buy 1 layout for the new year. I am excited to get back to this. But, this time I am making sure I only count books from my own shelves as thee reads, not library books this time around. So, because of this the spread is a little smaller.

This page I added a little doodle and then I also added a page with 12 books to showcase my 2020 Shakespeare Challenge, if you don’t know about it here is the post,  Blogmas | Goals | 2020 Shakespeare Challenge. I wanted to mark the play that is picked each month because it is a year long journey and I would love to see it grow. I also want to add a doodle for each play as I read them.  I thought it would be fun.

I have been working on a temperature blanket since the summer and I wanted to track my progress in my bullet journal. So, I added the month on the top and the day on the side and I am adding a dot for the days I have crocheted. I did not fill it out before taking the picture, but I will admit I am a little behind. On the right I decided to have a meal prep idea bank for when I am stumped on what to make for my meals. These are all ones I love so I will always be happy with any of them.

I picked this up from craftyenginerd, this year I wanted a pysical way to track when bills are paid. I will say I have never paid anything late, but sometimes I pay so early I freaekout and think I didn’t pay. So this will help me not freak out and rush and sign into my accounts. I also want to do a monthly one, I was thinking of adding one inspired by thatbujokid. But, I have not done it yet. I am still up in the air about it.

Here we are getting into the monthly spreads. On the left I have my January dashboard and mini calendar. On the right I added a place to add an affirmation that I can look back on. At the time I did not add one because I wanted to take the time and add a meaningful one. These are both from Shayda Campbell. The one on the right I took her other artwork and used it to complete the spread. I will say this month I didn’t use a ruler and I am kinda feeling the messy lines.

This month I really wanted to continue with the messy lines and the brown paper so I brought it through to me book tracker and to be read. These are spreads I have every month so I won’t go to much into it, but if you want to check out my TBR you can see that here: To Be Read | January 2020.

My weekly layouts are very similar to what they have been the last few months, but I added a tracker into my weekly spreads instead of just its own page. I really wanted to downsize my monthly spreads and get rid of stuff that was fluff and condense everything if I could. This layout has really been working for me and I have loved using it.

Gardening

It has been sometime since I last updated everyone on my indoor and outdoor gardens. I decided that I would take a little time today and share the victories and pitfalls I have had over the last few months.

-Pitfalls-

Sadly my moon valley and pothos did not do well at all. My pothos did some to me ill with something and I did my best to care for it and reverse the damage. Sadly, the spots on the leaves slowly took over the plant to a point it was no longer able to properly photosynthesize. My moon valley also did not do well at all. It was getting burned where I was keeping it and then it was starting to get very floppy so it wasn’t getting enough sunlight. This went back and forth for about 2 months until it finally died. I am really upset about this, but it seems like I do not have the proper environment for this plant.

-Victories- 

My ZZ plant has a new very large stem on it! It was so much fun watching it grow and slowly unravel each and every day for about a week and a half two weeks. It is going very well as of late, even though I have had to cut off two older stems that were starting to yellow and wither.

One of my outside, nameless succulents, has been doing amazing! It has flowered a few times and grown tremendously. I was able to catch a bug hanging out in the flower as well. Not sure if it is a bee or not, because it was loving the pollen inside.

My air plant continues to thrive and do wonderful. It has slowly, but steadily growing. In this picture it is in need of a soak. It gets even fuller when it has been watered.

This year my tomato plants are going wonderful! Last year I struggled quite a bit, but this year they are doing better than I thought they would. I have a study supply of these yummy bite sized fruits this year and I have been eating them in salads.

Now, this last one I am worried about. I feel like I have a bit of a spider mite issue. It looks like my main plant is getting eaten by something, but I have this new little plant growing at the same time. As of writing this I am looking up ways to try and beat them. If you have any suggestions let me know I don’t want anything happening to this beautiful snake plant.

Hello everyone, I am here again with another update on my gardening adventures. I am happy to say that there have been no plant casualties. I was so happy that I have been able to keep all the plants alive, I am still a bit uneasy about some of my plants, but I will get more into that in a bit.

My Plants

As you can see in the above pictures, I have my first plant, my air plant, as well as a few others. I will list them from top row left to right then the bottom row. As you can see, I have my plants labeled so I can remember them a bit better. Especially since one was just sent to me with another plant without a name or anything. I had to ask twitter for help in identifying it.

Snake Plant Identification

Thankfully, with some retweets someone was able to point me in the right direction and I was super happy about it. I was not happy with the seller I got it from. First the ZZ plant they sent me was not in good health at all, it was way over watered. They decided to just put this plant in because they were sending me a “bad” plant instead of just refunding everything, in fact it was root bound and I had to literally cut open the pot to try and save this plant. They did end up refunding the price of the plant, but not the shipping then sent me no information about this plant. Sadly, it has a fungi growing on one of the leaves so I had to cut it off. So far both plants seem to be doing alright, I hope the ZZ and Snake plants continue to thrive.

Marble Queen

I am a bit worried about this plant, when I got it, there were a few small brown edged holes in the middle of the leaves, now the tips are starting to turn brown. I was thinking it was due to under-watering so I am being more vigilant about it and am continuing to research the issue, but any suggestions would be helpful. You can kind of see the issue in the image above.

Moon Valley

My latest and random addition, I am kind of confused as to how to take care of it. When I picked it up in the store it said it needed low light and normal watering with getting dry in between. With my own research I found that they like a lot of indirect light and the soil needs to stay slightly wet at all times. So…. since more than one site said the latter, I am going to go with that? Wish me luck.

Indoor Garden Adventures|February 2019

More Than Books

Welcome to the second month of my indoor garden adventures, if you missed the first installment where I introduce the first terrariums I set up, Indoor Garden Adventures | January 2019. This installment I will update you with how the seedlings are doing and share a new addition I have added to my garden. I will say starting this in January might not have been the best start since I have been trying to keep the temperature nice and warm for my plants, but it has been so cold. Anyway, here are the updates!

Updates

So, sadly I have an update that is not so good. Then a bit of an upgrade for one of my established plants The first bit of news is my air plant was damaged during shipping. Seemed the heat pack was too hot for the little plant and it was too stressed. I honestly felt horrible. As soon as I noticed something was wrong I thought I already did something to the plant. Turns out I personally did not, but the shipping did not go so well. I was sent a replacement plant, which arrived 2/29/19 and it seemed to be be in better condition. It felt like it had more heft to it and was brighter in color.

The second bad news, well not sure if I should call it bad news… my seeds never sprouted like I suspected they wouldn’t. This is true for my outside gardening as well. I can never do seed starters, but if you give me a baby tomato plant I will grow it larger than myself, yes that actually happened to me last year. My plant became bigger than me. I am still not sure how I pulled it off, but I have a green thumb somewhere it seems.

Also, I am happy to say that I have had an aloe plant for years. Sadly it is not able to live in my room because it needs more natural light than it can get in my room with the window I have. Anyway, it has gotten so big! It has 3 pups growing off of it now and I thought it was time to give it an upgrade! I am hoping it does well with the new pot and continues to thrive.

Additions

So, while I was waiting for my replacement air plant I ended up picking up a grow light for my plants. I wanted them to get as much sunlight as they needed and the weather has been not so great the past month. Every day seemed to be overcast and dark. So I picked up a cheaper one and I am hoping that will help the little ones.

More Than Books

One thing I really wish I could do is keep plants. I would love to have a room filled with plants and books, I have a plan for my future library of sorts. I am planning on turning it into a greenhouse/library. I may have taken inspiration from one I stumbled into in December. life

Anyway, I always want more and more plants, but I don’t have a ton of room for them. But, a few weeks ago I was walking through the store and I noticed that this brand was selling terrarium kits. I thought it would be a great way to start with my current limitations. I ended up picking up two different ones because I could not decide, as well as a mister for an air plant I will show in a future edition of this series. Anyway, I picked up a Forest Floor Scandinavian and Forest Floor Woodland. The Scandinavian edition has seeds for a plant called Hyssop and the woodland has Sedum.

As you can see the kits came with quite a bit. I had to assemble the layers as well and place the seeds inside. I am very nervous about these because I feel like it would be very hard to grow plants from seeds if you are not very experienced. But, I am going to do my best. The picture below is the first day of the seeds being placed in their new home. It is said that it could sprout from 7-21 days so I have a lot of waiting in front of me.

While this is quite a short post I wanted to put together this introduction to this new series on my blog where I am happy to share other interests I have outside of reading. Please wish my plants and myself luck because I am so worried I am going to fail at this and do these little seeds a disservice.

Anyway, if you know anything about plants or anything like that please share your knowledge. I could use all the help I can get!
