Hello and welcome to my Mid-Year Freakout! It is hard to believe that we are already half way, or a little more than half way through 2022 already. I feel like time is flying all of a sudden, not sure about you? Anyway, let’s get into the questions and books!

Best Book You Have Read So Far

The Facemaker by Lindsey Fitzharris: This fascinating nonfiction read jumps into the early medical field surrounding reconstructive surgery, with a main focus of world war 1. It was written in a way where it was highly informative, but reading this felt like you were listening to a friend talk about their favorite topic and it makes you really excited about it as well.

Best Sequel You Have Read This Year

I have not read a single sequel this year, I am so bad with series these days. I just tend to avoid them anymore.

A New Release That You Wanna Read, But Have Not Yet

The It Girl by Ruth Ware: Ruth Ware is one of my auto buy authors so I have this already on my digital shelf, I just have not been up to reading. As soon as the reading bug bites me I am diving into this book. Ware has a way of writing thrillers that always leaves you surprised and with each release her writing gets better and better.

Most Anticipated Release For The Second Half of the Year

Carrie Soto Is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid: Taylor Jenkins Reid is another auto buy author for me. I have read nearly all of their backlog and have really enjoyed them. To be honesty, I always hate the description of their books. They never sound interesting to me, but somehow this author takes something I normally would be meh about and makes me love it.

The Women Could Fly by Megan Giddings: When an authors writing is compared to one of my favorite authors I always need to take a closer look at the book. When I read the description on Megan Giddings book I knew I needed to read it. It said the word witches and I was in, on top of that the main characters story and the utopian world the author has placed them in is very scary, but also intriguing.

Biggest Disappointment So Far

Gwendy’s Final Task by by Stephen King and Richard Chizmar: Now you might be saying this is a sequel you said you didn’t read any this year. I didn’t, I couldn’t finish this book. Now, I LOVED the first two books in this series and I will say I really loved the writing on this third one as well. Even with this talent of both authors I had to DNF one of my most anticipated reads of 2022. The reason being, I kept getting pulled out of the story so often it felt like every 5 pages or so. This book is so much in our time and our world that I could not suspend belief enough to get back into the story of our main character. I kept getting side tracked and going off on mental tangents about the state of the world. These writers are really talented, but I feel like this is a book I need to read a few years from now to really get what I want out of it if that makes sense.

Biggest Surprise So Far

The Dangers of Smoking in Bed: Stories by Mariana Enríquez: The reason this is such a surprise for me is because I only picked this up because it was shortlisted for the International Booker Prize last year. Every year I make it a goal to read all of the books on the shortlist to find new authors around the world. There are misses for sure, but every once in a while I find a new author I just love. This is the case with Mariana Enríquez, even before finishing this book I ordered another one by them. Their writing is magical and their stories are so unique, dark at times and captivating.

Favorite New Author (Debut or New to You)

Well, to be honest with you, Mariana Enríquez. The author of the book mentioned above, I really hope more of their works are translated into English because I just want to read more of their works than the two I already had my hands on.

Newest Fictional Crush

Honestly, I have not found a new fictional crush of 2022, but I shall keep searching!

Newest Favorite Character

August from One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston: August is a really interesting character, really pulled away from the world looking for their place. It was really fun to see their journey and how caring they truly are once they start making connection with others.

A Book That Made You Cry

No book has managed to make me cry yet, but to be fair books in general don’t make me cry very often.

Book That Made You Happy

One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston: I really loved this book so much, mainly for the fact of the found family and the growth of the main character. I smiled so much while reading this book and even did a few happy squeaks.

Most Beautiful Book You Have Bough or Received This Year

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami: Can we just take a moment to look at how colorful and magical this books looks. It is so simple, but for me it really invokes a feeling of this book is going to magical. Bonus points, I just read this two days ago and I loved it so much. I love when a beautiful cover holds a really great story.

Naughty or Nice Book Tag Vol. 2

Hello and welcome to a tag post! I have not done one in a really long time, but I was recently tagged by Meeghan Read to complete this very festive tag, thank you Meeghan! I wanted to jump on this since it is so time sensitive so this is getting posted sooner rather than later. Also, can I just say I LOVE these types of tags. I love seeing others reading habits, good or bad. Anyway, on to the questions!

Achieved your goodreads goal this year – Thankfully, I finished this a few months ago!

Finished your reading challenges this year – I have finished most of them, I have a post coming out near the end of the month going through all of my challenges and how I did since I had quite a few.

Have a TBR under 100 books – Yes! My TBR is currently 29 at the time of writing this.

Didn’t break a book buying ban – I didn’t really have a book buying ban this year. I have gotten more picky with this books I picked up at the store though.

Donated books you unhauled this year – Yep! Every time I unhaul I send pictures to my friends asking if they want any and those that are unclaimed get donated.

Did not extend a library book more than once – I think I did only because I was on vacation and could not return it because I was not in the state.

Actually read the book your friend recommended – I have done this most of the time. I still need to read about 3 books recommended by friends though at this point.

Rearranged your shelves – Oh, I did this for sure this year. I unhauled over 100 books so I needed to fix everything.

Resisted buying a physical copy of a book you read digitally or audiobooked just to have it on your shelves – I tend to do the opposite. I might borrow a digital or audiobook for a book I already own physically. I have never done the opposite though.

Did not forget about your ‘books read’ twitter thread – Oh, this was abandoned a few months into the year. I was really good about it in previous years, but this year not so much.

Posted on bookstagram once per week – I don’t have an instagram anymore. I deleted it and it felt so good!

Tracked all your read books (on Goodreads, by spreadsheet or journal — however you do it) – Yes, I have tracked all my books read on goodreads this year!

Saved a friend from reading a book so they didn’t have to suffer also – I don’t think so, but I can’t say for sure. I tend to talk about books I liked and I don’t tend to tell people not to read things that interest them because they might end up enjoying it.

Finished a completed series you started – Yes, I finished reading two series this year. It might be more, but for sure two series.

Did not deliberately look for spoilers – I don’t really ever do this. I can’t recall a time that I have ever, maybe with I was younger?

Dusted your bookshelves (regularly) – Yep, I do this about once a month at least.

Did not put off reading books because the rest of the series isn’t out yet – I don’t read series too often, but I didn’t do this in 2021.

Unhauled a limited edition book that you didn’t enjoy – Yep! Unhauled a few signed editions and special editions this year.

Did not buy multiple editions of the same book to collect (and not read) – I did not do this. I did get gifted a book I already owned, not sure if that counts though. lol.

Finished the year with LESS books in your TBR than when you started – I am not sure what I started the year with so I can’t honestly answer it. If anything I know I am pretty sure I am about the same amount.

Let’s Talk | My Chaotic Reading Habits Tag

Hello and welcome to a bit of a tag post that I thought was really fun. I came across this tag a few months ago when it was posted by Noelle Gallagher, a booktuber. As soon as I watched I knew I would eventually get around to posting my own answers because I love learning about other reading habits as well as talking about them in general. I always found it kind of funny how so many people can love the same hobby, but engage in it so differently!

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I generally read in my room either in my bed or in my chair. If it is warmer out I will read outside and enjoy some fresh air.

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Now, this one is interesting. I used to be someone who just used whatever was around me. But, as of late I have been using bookmarks more consistently. I am not sure when this shift started or what actually changed for me because I always had bookmarks on hand. lol.

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?

I need a natural break in a book to stop reading. I either will stop after a chapter or if there is a break in a chapter. If not I get a bit annoyed at having to find exactly where I put the book down. But, I will say there are times I just stop because something has to be addressed or comes up. This is a huge reason why I am not a fan of books that don’t have chapters or natural breaking points.

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?

Yeah, I tent to have a drink of some sort when I am drinking. I don’t always have a snack, but not because I am against eating while reading. I just tend to read after a meal or before bed so I am not too hungry.

5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

I often have instrumental music playing in the background or an ambiance video playing. I actually did a post on some of my favorites a while ago, it is called Let’s Talk | Personal Reading Sprints with ASMR. I tend to use them as guidance for reading sprints and I listed a few of my favorite channels.

6. One book at a time or several at once?

I generally have 2 or more books going at once, but they tend to be two different formats. I will tend to read a physical book or ebook and then listen to an audiobook at the same time.

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

I generally read at home, mainly because I don’t go many places these days with the world being what it is currently. I have in the past always brought a book with me on the go.

8. Reading out lout or silently in your head?

I really don’t enjoy reading aloud. I always read to myself in my head.

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

I have done this from time to time if a book is REALLY dragging or there is a POV in a book I loath and I will skip their chapter. I am reading for entertainment and if it is not entertaining me I am skipping it.

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I am not someone who is like I NEED to break the spine or someone who will be upset if the spines are broken. I just kind of let happen what is going to happen. I will be very careful with a book though if I am borrowing it from a friend because it is not mine. Library books tend to be hard covers and tend to have some sort of protection so I don’t need to be as careful as if I am reading a friends copy.

11. Do you write in your books?

Yes, I will write in a book if I have strong reactions to something in it or I am reading it for a buddy read or review. That way I can find some things to discuss easily and not need to look from a note book then to a book and then try to find a line on a page. But, if I do not own the book I will not do this.

I Forgot That You Existe: A book from your childhood that you don’t remember anything about

My aunt used to read to me a Peter Rabbit story every time I slept over. She read it to me so much I was bored by the story and started to pretend to go to sleep. Even though she read it to me so much, I have completely forgotten what is is about. I did recently pick up a collection of stories though and I plan on reread them now that she is gone. I did tell her about this when I was older and we both laughed about it. It was the only children’s book she owned at the time. lol.

Lover: A bookish relationship that’s perfect exactly the way it is

I really loved the relationship between the two main characters in Beach Read, they challenged each other, but were respectful.

The Man: A book with a badass female main character

I am going to go non-fiction with this and say Wonder Women: 25 Innovators, Inventors, and Trailblazers Who Changed History by Sam Maggs because every single woman in this book was a total badass.

The Archer: A book with great character development

Linus Baker from The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune is the most recent one that pops into my head.

I Think He Knows: Your fictional crush

I am just going to name my first bookish crush for this one. My first ever bookish crush was Professor Bhaer from Little Women. He was kind, smart, and believed in Jo so much.

Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince: A book set in high school

Oh, this is a hard one. I have not read a book that takes place in a high school in a very long time. But, I did read a book recently that had high school as a setting very, very briefly, Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo. Which is also an amazing read.

Paper Rings: A book with a happy ending

So, the only books that I can think of with happy endings I have already mentioned… so it seems I need to read more books with happy endings. oops. Please recommend some good ones to me.

Cornelia Street: A setting you’ll never forget

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, I mean it is so imaginative, fantastical and just wow. I think it is one of the best settings I have come across and one I often think about. I really need to do a reread soon.

Death By A Thousand Cuts: A book that broke your heart

I would have to say The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi, this book ruined me emotionally, but I loved it so much. It is such a powerful story and done so well.

London Boy: A setting that plays a big role in the story

The first two amazing stories that pop in my head are Before the Coffee Gets Cold and Tales from the Cafe both of which are written by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. Without the cafe, we would have none of these wonderful emotional tales.

Soon You’ll Get Better:A book that made you cry

I would say that the first book that popped into my head is 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in this Strange World by Elif Shafak, which I did not outright cry to, but I did tear up quite a bit. This story starts off from the perspective of a dead woman and then her friends and it was very emotional and talked about some difficult topics.

False God: A book with a well-written sexy scene

The last romance I remember reading with a scene like this was a J.R. Ward book, but I don’t remember which one it was. Sorry!

You Need to Calm Down: A book featuring an LGBT romance

The last book I read that featured an LGBT romance would be Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas. This was so a wonderful book to read, the author really has a talent.

Afterglow: A great second chance romance

Honestly, nothing comes to mind for this questions, sorry!

Me!: Your all-time favorite book

My all time favorite book I already mentioned, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I have reread this multiple times and I have had to buy some replacements as well.

It’s Nice To Have A Friend: Your favorite friends-to-lovers book

The first book that popped in my head was Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz, it has been quite a while since I read it, but I still really enjoyed it and I feel like is it for sure worth sharing. I also had no idea that it was turned into a series and I put book 2 on my to read shelf so I get an alert when it comes out.

Daylight: A book with a positive message

I would say Gmorning, Gnight!: Little Pep Talks for Me & You by Lin-Manuel Miranda, because everyone can do with a morning and nighttime peptalk. These short and sweet little sayings with adorable doodles are just wonderful and uplifting and make you feel like you are not alone.

Snow Day – What’s your “comfort” book?

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, this books I read and adored with my mom as a child. To this day it is a book I go back to time and time again. It has such great memories tied to it, but also I love the story and the relationship between the family members so much.

Snow Angels – What’s a book that you love so much you would want to be buried with it(a little morid, but…)?

Well, I don’t think I can pick the same book again so, I will go with Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I once again enjoy the relationships within the story, but I also like the discussion of no one being truly good or truly bad and you are not always what you are defined to be. I also think it would be interesting being buried with a book that has to do with angels and demons. If ever found it might makes things a bit interesting.

Warm Socks – What’s a book that makes you feel warm inside?(The fluffiest, cutest romance you’ve ever read?)

I think I will go with Beach Read by Emily Henry. I read though it so quickly, I adored the characters and I will always love reading books about authors.

Hot Cocoa – What winter-themed novels have you previously read?

The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon is a great horror read set in the winter. It has disappearance, legends, family secrets, and a bit of historical fiction thrown in. It is a wild ride and I was a book I was pulled into right from the beginning. Th best part is that it is just over 300 pages and is not too long, but has a lot going on.

Sledding – What’s a book with the best plot twists? Who’s an author that always keeps you on your toes?

The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton, this book seriously kept me on my toes from start to finish. I don’t want to say too much, but this author is so talented and became an auto buy author because of it.

Ugly Sweaters – What’s a book with the ugliest cover?

The first book that pops up in my mind is the green edition of The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I enjoyed the book and the movie for that matter, but I always disliked the lime green edition of this book.

Movie Marathon – What’s the last book you binge read?

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, I sat down last weekend thinking I would read a few chapters. Well, I ended up reading the entire book in a single day and I was honestly tempted to reread it almost right away. I honestly loved the characters and the dynamics of their relationships. I also adored the touch of magic the author added, it was perfect!

I also want to mention The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi, a very similar thing happened when I went to read this book. I sat down to read a chapter or two and ended up reading the entire thing. While this is a beautiful story of a family truly learning who their child is, but it is so heart breaking and emotional. I don’t want to give too much information because I don’t want to spoil anything but I HIGHLY suggest you check this one out. It is one of the few books that made me cry.

Letter to Santa – What’s a book that’s on your wishlist this year?

As of right now I have a whole list you can see here, but the one book I want the most would be Dark Archives by Megan Rosenbloom, a librarian. It is a nonfiction book that discusses a ]very morbid, but interesting topic of books bound in human skin. The author explores the science as well as the historical significance that led to these books being created. I am curious to see how the author will discuss such a dark topic and if she will be telling the story of those who became victims.

What’s your favorite spooky book?

My favorite spooky books are The Shining by Stephen King , The Hunger by Alma Katsu and The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

What’s your favourite thing about October?

The weather, where I live October is the perfect temperature. I don’t need a jacket yet sand I am not overheating as soon as I walk out of my house.

Are you a big celebrator of Halloween?

I decorate and watch scary movies because it tends to fall on a wok night, but I also dress up at work every year.

What’s your favourite horror movie?

I would say It or Secret Window currently, but it always changes.

Would you rather a cosy night in watching horrors or a big night out in a costume?

I am all for a cozy night with some horror movies.

Which has been your most favourite costume to date?

I loved the one year I dressed up as Rosie the Riveter. It was so comfortable and fun!

Bobbing for apples or pin the hat on the witch?

I have never done either of these! But, I think I would like pin the hat on the witch better.

How do you celebrate Halloween?

I tend to watch some movies, reflect on the year ahead and thinking about those who have passed, and of course have some yummy candy.

What’s your least favourite horror?

In general I really don’t enjoy horror that relies on gore for the sake of gore because they cannot write a plot that is scary on its own.

Do you have a favourite trick or treating memory?

When I was younger I broke my foot so I could not go out, but all my parents friends gave me a bag of candy. So I had candy for MONTHS. These were the 1 lb. bags of mixed candy, not tiny goody bags.

What’s your favourite thing about Halloween?

I just like the energy of halloween. I enjoy that it is a turning point in the year.

Scary costume or silly costume?

I am game for either, but I always love a good laugh.

What’s your favourite Halloween candy?

My favorite would be recess cups.

Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave by Frederick Douglass

As I said in my post, To Be Read | August 2020, I planned on reading this book in August. I did come across some excerpts I read when I was in school and they were all annotated. I didn’t read the annotations, but I am curious of how my annotating will vary this time as opposed to last time when I am done reading.

Next 5-Star Read

After the Quake by Haruki Mauakami

I am not quite sure this counts as cheating, but I am about 50% done with this book already and I am really enjoying it. As long as nothing unforeseen happens, I am probably going to be giving his book 5 stars. It is a great collections of short stories with a unifying thread. It is whimsical, magical, and thought provoking.

Next 1-Star Read

Color Therapy Plain Simple: The Only Book You’ll Ever Need by Nina Ashby

I am going to be honest with this one. I don’t really think it is going to be a 1 star read, but I think it is going to be the lowest rated out of my current TBR. The reason being it has a 2.4 rating on goodreads… that is the lowest one I have. I do have hope though that maybe I will like it better than others.

Next Love Interest

Jo & Laurie by Margaret Stohl and Melissa de la Cruz

This is the only book on my owned TBR that has a hint of romance to it. It is a historical fiction/retelling/continuation of sorts of he lives of Jo and Laurie from Little Women. Which, if you did not know is my all time favorite book and series. Yes, there are more Little Women books!

Next Book You’ll Be Buying

Confessions on the 7:45: A Novel by Lisa Unger

I think the next book I will be buying will actually be a pre-order of this book. It does not come out until October 6th, 2020. I went to a digital author book talk and the author recommended quite a few books, many I read, but this one stood out to me!

Next Book That Will Leave you With a Book Hangover

A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon

While I do enjoy this series I always have a book hangover of sorts when I finish ones of its tomes. I tend to read two per year because that is all I can handle. I am planning on reading this one at the end of August or in September. I still cannot believe I have made it to book 6 of this series.

Norse Mytholgy by Neil Gaiman, I picked this one because the start of this book Gaiman goes into his personal history with Norse Mythology and it was really interesting and I felt it really set a great tone to the whole book.

Little Women

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, this novel will forever be a holiday book for me because it just feels cozy and it radiates family to me. This also a book I reread often and when I want to relax so either holiday meaning it has it covered!

Firestarter

Charlie from Firestarter by Stephen King, I feel so much for Charlie in this book and I feel like everyone should just protect this poor girl. I don’t want to say much because you know, spoilers. But, I just want her to be safe and with those who care.

Beach Read by Emily Henry, I mean the cover and title alone really say it all. This was a really fun and you probably heard all about it because so many people have been raving about it. It is a fun read that tackles a few sadder themes, but over all it had full on summer vibes and even a summer romance.

Teen Titans: Raven by Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo, so this one I am twisting a bit. Raven really made me think about what makes us, well us. In addition to the importance of family. I feel like the, “who am I?”, “What does it all mean?” are questions a lot of us ask of ourselves from time to time, but I feel like it happens a lot as we grow up in high school. Like I said, I am twisting this prompt a little, sorry!

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen, I read this a bit ago and it was a really fun classic to read. I loved that the narrator had a sense of humor and was making fun of the book. On top of that it was a very typical love classic into also a horror/thriller esc. classic. It was quote enjoyable. I ended up writing an entire post about this one, Let’s Talk | BuzzFeed Picks My Jane Austen Novel

Don’t Touch My Hair by Emma Dabiri, this was such a great read. I annotated this book so heavily I needed to buy a new highlighter. This was such a great mixture of memoir and history of slavery all tied together by hair. It is a wonderful anti-racism novel that I think more people need to talk about and read.

Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu, okay, I admit this is not all fluff, but I just loved the relationships in this graphic novel and the support given! I just had to mention it, I need to read more by these two.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi, the message of this book, at least to me, was savor all the time we get to spend with those around us. You never know when things will happen and you don’t want to regret not saying something or showing how you care. This was a beautiful short story.

Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow, this book is HUGE. Now, I love history and I worked with someone who also loved history at an old job. I knew their taste was generally similar to mine and they were having a hard time reading it saying it was slow and dragged. So, I was really afraid to read it. Well, years later I finally read it and this person could not be more wrong, at least in my opinion.

Girl, Woman, Other

Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo, such a wonderful book. This book was diverse in so many ways. It was diverse in so many ways, such as age range, race, sexuality, economically. It was a wonderful book and I will say, this should have been the ONLY winner of the 2019 Man Booker Prize.

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, as you all probably know. This book has been on booktube, blogs, and just about everywhere I see books talked about. Well, I picked it up and I really did love it! This author is so talented, I can’t wait to see what they do next. It really is amazing when the hype pays off.

Hello and welcome to a very delayed tag post. I am so bad with keeping up with these, I don’t know why. Anyway, I am excited to be doing The Currently Reading Tag and I was tagged by the wonderful Whitney from Whit Reads Lit.

My Current Read

The Questions

How many books do you usually read at once?

I usually read between 1 and 3 books. At one point I remember reading 5 at a time and I don’t recommend it. If we are talking about right now, I have managed to keep it to 1!

How do you decide when to switch between multiple reads?

When I am jumping between multiple books it is usually because one is an audiobook and another is physical. I might also remember I have to return a book to the library and just start it so I don’t miss out on it as well.

Do you ever switch bookmarks partway through a book?

Usually I do this if I loose the bookmark, which I do quite frequently when I am on the go. The past few months of staying home I have managed to only loose 1 bookmark.

Where do you keep the book(s) you’re currently reading?

I tend to keep the books I am currently reading either directly on my bed or on my nightstand. But, I will be honest, they are usually just sitting on my bed because I read before going to sleep.

What time of day do you read the most?

I tend to read a lot during the late morning and early afternoon, but that is if I don’t have any plans. If I have plans during that time I will read at night. I pretty much read when I have time to read.

How long do you typically read in one session?

I usually read for around an hour, but sometimes I will just binge a book and sit there for hours as well. If I pick up a book I make sure I have at least an hour to read.

Do you read hardbacks with the dust jacket off?

Yeah, I always take the dust jackets off when I am reading because I am afraid of ruining them or bending them funny.

What position do you mainly use to read?

I mainly read sitting in my chair or laying down in bed. Since the weather is getting nice I am reading in my hammock more, which has been lovely!

Do you take your current read with you everywhere you go?

Well, since my area is still for the most part locked down I am not really going anywhere other than the supermarket. I am not really bringing anything extra with me to the supermarket.

How often do you update your Goodreads reading progress?

I update my good reads when I start a book, finish a reading season, and finish a book. I am pretty on top of goodreads. Updating my reading else where, well, not so good.

Bookish Naughty or Nice Tag

1. Received an ARC and not reviewed it ✔

I currently have about 5 books waiting for review, I am hoping to get them done by January of next year. Fingers crossed.

2. Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley

I am actually happy to say that mine is currently at 86%

3. Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)

I have one that says it right now, but I am waiting for my review on my blog to go live first then I am going to add it to my goodreads. I have made it a goal this year to write even a sentence about a book.

4. Folded down the page of a book

Hope, I have not. I personally can’t do that, I normally just stick whatever is around me to hold my page. This could be a receipt, paper, my pen/pencil, another book.

5. Accidentally spilled on a book

Thankfully, knock on wood, that has not happened to me this year!

6. DNF a book this year ✔

Yes, I am pretty cut throat when it comes to DNFing a book I am not enjoying. There are too many books in the world to waste time on one I am not enjoying.

7. Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it

A pretty cover might pull me in, but I need to like the description as well.

8. Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)

Nope, I have to admit I get what I need to get done so I can relax while I am reading.

9. Skim read a book

Nope, I have in the past, but I don’t remember doing this in 2019.

10. Completely missed your Goodreads goal

I set my goal at 50 every year, I figure a little under a book a week is a good goal to have incase life gets a little out of hand. I want to enjoy reading, not be stressed by it. At this point I have read 95 books and I am hoping to read a few more before the end of the year.

11. Borrowed a book and not returned it to the library

I have always returned the books I have borrowed, maybe a day late here and there, but I have always returned them.

12. Broke a book buying ban✔

Yeah, a few months ago my Read 5, Buy 1 went out the window, Read 5, Buy 1 | September 2019 Fail. I am going to be jumping back into it come December.

13. Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about

Nope, I have not done this in 2019 as well. Any review I started to write I finished it.

14. Wrote in a book you were reading✔

I annotate the books I have for review, I notice I pay more attention and notice even more.

15. Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads

Nope, all the books I have read this year have been added to my goodreads account.

16. Borrowed a book and not returned it to a friend

Just as earlier, I have returned everything I have borrowed.

17. Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book

I think my friends and family know I don’t really let people borrow books, but I am always trying to pass on books for them to keep. It makes me so happy to be able to pass on great stories to others.

18. Broke the spine of someone else’s book

If someone lets me borrow a book, I sure as anything am not going to break the spine on them.

19. Took the jacket off a book to protect it and ended up making it more damaged

Thankfully, I have not had any book jacket related incidents this year. I hope 2020 is just the same.

20. Sat on a book accidentally ✔

Yeah, I have a habit of leaving my current read on my bed or on my reading chair and forget. Thankfully, no damage has been done!

Final Score: 5/20, down 2 from last year!
